All work and no play? No way!

The Brio Experience isn't just about hands-on training and learning from the pros. It's also about "letting your hair down" and having fun!

Volunteering for the Troops

November 24, 2010

Brio Niantic was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the “Theatre Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group TASK FORCE 11″ US ARMY.

The students and staff of Brio Niantic volunteered at Camp Rell  where they did over 70 haircuts on service personnel who are all being deployed as I write this, to Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait.

These US ARMY active duty personnel were from all over the country and during the presentation of the plaque it was stated that by Brio Niantic students and staff coming to the base and offering these services, not only did they feel welcomed to Connecticut, but it was a huge morale builder for the military personnel.

Brio Explosion lights up our East Hartford campus!

In the summer of 2009, at a special event held at Brio’s East Hartford campus, Brio students from all Brio locations demonstrated their unique talents and the skills they have learned at a competition based on a theme, hair and makeup. Some very unique and creative looks were achieved to the delight of everyone who was there. Congratulations to all students, instructors and staff that made this event so special.

Individual Student competitions were also held, Barbering, Makeup Avante Guard, Cut Color Blow-dry and Style, and Nail Art…

Community Involvement

At Brio, we do more than “teach hair”. We are active in our communities, locally and at the national level. We get involved with special events and summer concerts that support community causes. We support the homeless. We promote AIDs awareness.

Hair and oil? What’s the connection?

In the spring of 2010, all 10 Brio Academy locations in CT and MA collected hair from all clinic floor haircuts to help with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill containment initiative.

Hair collects oil. That means it can collect oil spills too.

Over 300,000 pounds of human hair are cut each day in the USA – not to mention all the clippings from pet groomers.

Thousands of salons, groomers, wool farmers, and individuals mailed in hair, fur, and wool clippings swept off their floors.

The fibers were stuffed into recycled nylons and covered in mesh to make booms or, when possible, woven into hair mats. These booms and hair mats were then used to soak up oil.
